Alumni Office records
Abstract
The functions of the Alumni Office include the maintenance of alumni records, sponsorship of special programs for alumni, liaison with the alumni association, and representation of alumni interests within the campus community. The collection consists of the office's operating records and includes committee files, memorabilia and photographs.

Historical Note
The Alumni Association was organized in 1892, and reorganized in 1947 to consolidate the previously created separate professional school alumni organizations. Its purpose was to promote the interests and welfare of the university and further good relations between the university, Maryland residents, and alumni. The staff of the Alumni Office, as on-campus liaison, carried out its goals through fundraising, sponsoring social events to develop support for the university through loyal alumni, and serving on various university committees. The Alumni Office reports directly to the president of the university.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
The records of the Alumni Office span the years 1927 to 1961; the bulk of the materials cover the mid-1950s. They include minutes, correspondence, reports, press releases, and financial records relating to the administration of the Alumni Office and its programs.
Custodial History and Acquisition Information
The records of the Alumni Office were transferred to the University of Maryland College Park Libraries in the 1970s.

Detailed Description of the Collection
Series 1: Memorabilia, 1973 (0.50 linear feet)
This series includes three artifacts associated with the Alumni Association, such as a plaque presented to Geary Eppley, the honorary president of the Alumni Association, and a resolution presented to Col. O. H. Saunders in appreciation of his contributions. These artifacts have been transferred to the Memorabilia Collection (#675, 721, and 724).

Series 2: Administrative Files, 1927-1957 (2.00 linear feet)
This series includes administrative materials generated by the Alumni Office, arranged alphabetically by topic. The records consist of correspondence, minutes, financial records, and reports documenting the relationship of the Alumni Office and its staff with various departments and programs of the university. Among topics covered are class reunions, fundraising, scholarship, awards, and the alumni publication, the Maryland Magazine.

Series III consists of materials documenting the university committees in which the Alumni Office participated, including membership lists, correspondence, press releases, and minutes. The files are arranged alphabetically by committee. The Centennial Committee and the Legislative Committee are among the committees included.
